HOW MUCH MORE!

LUKE 11:5–13

During World War I, Oswald Chambers was assigned as a YMCA chaplain to British Commonwealth soldiers at Zeitoun Camp, a military training facility close to Cairo, Egypt, in October 1915. He called a religious service for the weeknight, and four hundred men showed up to hear Chambers’s talk, “What Is the Good of Prayer?” in the spacious YMCA hut. Later on, Oswald would frequently reference Luke 11:13 in his one-on-one conversations with men who were seeking God at a time of war. The verse reads, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?”

God’s free gift through Jesus is forgiveness, hope, and His presence through the Holy Spirit, as stated in v. 10.

On November 15, 1917, Oswald Chambers unexpectedly died from a ruptured appendix. To honour him, a soldier led to Christ by Oswald purchased a marble carving of a Bible with the words of Luke 11:13 on it and placed it beside his grave.

🙏Father, we thank You for the great gift of the Holy Spirit who lives in us and guides us in Your truth today.
