PSALM 13
“How long is forever?” questions Alice in Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice in Wonderland. “Sometimes, just one second,” the White Rabbit replies.
Time felt as such when my friend passed quite soon. We experienced a greater sense of loss and grief as the days leading up to his funeral dragged on. It felt like every second went on forever.
David expresses his longing for God’s presence, asking how long he will be forgotten, hidden, and grappling with life’s pains, as he sings in Psalm 13:1–2, expressing the unending pain of life.
Our heavenly Father’s presence and care can help us cope with our pain and loss, as seen in King David’s lament. We can trust in His unfailing love and rejoice in His salvation, as seen in Psalm 13:5. His unfailing love will carry us through our struggles and bring us joy.
The eternal God is our greatest source of solace through difficult and painful times.
🙏 Thy kingdom come, O God!
Thy rule, O Christ begin!
Break with thine iron rod
the tyrannies of sin! (A&M 262)
