HEARTS AFLAME

ROMANS 9:1-5

We knew nothing would be the same again. Our hearts were burning as we departed from St. Barnabas’, Elekahia, the location of our ordination retreat, for St. Paul’s Cathedral, Diobu, where we were ordained by the Rt. Revd. Samuel Elenwon on December 24, 1997.

“Come then, with hearts aflame,” wrote Clement of Alexandria in 200AD. What does it mean to have a devoted heart during this period when we are searching for indications of God’s existence in the world? This is the hour, if ever there was one, when the weary soul of the world longs to see the light of Christ blazing in everyone.

What, I wonder, do you and I need to do as this Advent season comes to an end to become that heart aflame?

Many products claim to satisfy desires and provide purpose, but Jesus’ message of reconciliation is the only good news, and it is our honour to bring that message to a world in need.
