HEARING GOD

1 SAMUEL 3:1–10

A cold and allergies made me feel as though I was underwater, with all sounds muffled and muted. It took me weeks to get a clear hearing. This experience made me realise how important it was to hear.

Samuel thought he was being called by Eli. He presented himself three times, but only the third time did Eli realise it was the Lord speaking to him. The word of the Lord was rare at the time, and the people were not in tune with His voice. But Eli taught Samuel how to respond (v. 9).

The Lord speaks more now than in the days of Samuel, as He speaks to us through His Son (Hebrews 1:1–2). Hearing His voice and obeying Him are skills we must acquire. We should test our understanding of the Lord’s guidance with the Bible and other mature Christians. As God’s beloved children, we can hear His voice, and He loves to speak life into us.

🙏Lord, open our eyes so that we can see You. Please open our ears so we can hear You.
