HARVEST AND THANKSGIVING

GENESIS 8:15–9:3; EXODUS 23:16

God instructed Moses and the Israelites to celebrate the Festival of Harvest with the first fruits of crops in Exodus 23:16.

Today, nations all around the world commemorate the abundance of the land in a manner similar to this. The Yam Festival is observed by the people of Ghana as a harvest celebration. In Dia do Acao de Gracas, people in Brazil express their gratitude for the crops that provided their nourishment. The Mid-Autumn (Moon) Festival is held in China. Thanksgiving is observed in Canada and the United States.

Harvest celebrations aim to remind us of God’s provision for our flourishing existence on earth, with seasons, daylight, darkness, and “seedtime and harvest” being key aspects.

Regardless of your location or celebration of your land’s bounty, take time to express gratitude to God for His grand creative design.

Gratitude is the memory of a glad heart.

🙏Dear God, the Creator, we are so grateful that You created this earth with all the need for life, including seasons and harvest time.
