JOHN 13:12-15
Jesus set aside His outer garments and looked like a servant would appear. He poured water in a basin. We exchanged baffled looks.
“Give me your feet,” He said.
We were startled. Each of us carefully removed our sandals, not certain of what to say, or what to do. We were shocked by such humility. Foot washing was the worst of tasks, meant for servants. Yet Jesus kneeled before us, one by one, and washed our feet. We watched Him move from one person to another. Dear God, Jesus was on His knees, pouring water on our dirty soles. The Son of God, the Son of Man, washed our feet.
But then, He concluded by asking us to do same to one another.
This day, as weary travelers, parched, hurting, and vulnerable, we are looking for Jesus, needing water, and trusting our souls, and soles to Him (or His human representatives).
