FROM EMPTY TO FULL

2 KINGS 4:1–7

A children’s book tells the story of a poor boy named Bartholomew who removes his cap to honour the king. An identical hat appears, causing the king to be angry. Bartholomew is sent to the palace for punishment, where he removes hat after hat, each time with a new hat appearing. The 500th hat was so attractive to the King, who pardons Bartholomew and buys the hat for 500 gold pieces. Bartholomew returned home with freedom and money to support his family.

A widow, in financial distress, sought help from Elisha, fearing her children would be sold into slavery to pay her debts. With only a jar of oil, God multiplied it to settle the debts and provide daily care.

God provides support to widows and believers alike, providing salvation and eternal life. Jesus offers eternal life and pays off debts. Without Jesus, we are like poor country boys without means to pay our King for offenses. God miraculously provides a ransom and ensures abundant life for those who trust in Him.

🙏We are grateful to You, Lord, for using Jesus Christ’s sacrifice to pay off our debts. You covered everything for us; we had nothing.
