JOSHUA 7:1-13
The roof was almost caving in. Upon investigation, it was discovered that termites had destroyed the woods. Those voracious little eaters were crawling up there and causing havoc without anybody knowing.
The Children of Israel had a problem (Joshua 7). They could not understand why. There was something hidden from their eyes that was causing great damage like the termites.
The problem became evident when Joshua sent 3,000 troops to attack Ai. While it should have been enough army to defeat Ai’s small force, the opposite happened. Ai defeated the Israelites, killed some of them, and drove them back the way they came. Joshua had no idea why this problem arose. Then God explained the hidden problem: One of his men, Achan, had broken a clear commandment and stole “accursed things” from Jericho (Joshua 7:11).It was only when this hidden sin was discovered and resolved that Israel was able to achieve victory.
Hidden sin does great damage. We have to bring it to the surface and allow God deal with it, or face defeat. If we refuse, we can be sure that our sin will find us out. (Numbers 32:23)
