2 KINGS 19:9-20
Telegram was the fastest communication method before telephones, email, and mobile phones. It sent only important news, often bad, leading to the saying “telegram boy always brings bad news.”
Hezekiah, king of Judah, faced a “telegram” from Sennacherib, king of Assyria, urging his surrender. Hezekiah described the moment as a day of distress, rebuke, and disgrace (2 Kings 19:3).
Sennacherib boasted about his military campaigns, belittling the God of Israel and threatening mayhem. King Hezekiah spread the bad news letter before the Lord, praying earnestly and acknowledging God’s power over their situation. God intervened in a powerful way, restoring the peace.
We can receive bad news at any time. Hezekiah’s deed is a worthy model to imitate. Pray and lay out the news before the Lord; He will intervene.
🙏 Lord, help us to rely on You rather than trying to solve problems on our own. Defend us now, in Jesus’ name!
