ROMANS 5:8-10
Four people – a pilot, a professor, a pastor and a hiker were flying in a plane when the engines failed. The pilot told the other passengers that there were only three parachutes and that he would take one because the plane was his. He took a parachute and jumped. The professor told the pastor and the hiker that he was brilliant and the world needed him, so he took a parachute. He also jumped.
The pastor did not want to be selfish, so he asked the hiker to take the last parachute. To his amazement the hiker said there were two left, so each of them could have a parachute. The professor jumped with the hiker’s backpack instead of a parachute! Even though the professor believed he would land safely, his assurance was based on false thoughts.
Some people have an assurance of salvation on the basis of wrong thoughts. They believe that going to church, being baptized, or just being good will earn them God’s approval, but our thinking is wrong if it is not based on what God says in His Word. God says that everyone has sinned and that we are His enemies. But through the death and resurrection of His Son, we can be reconciled to God (Romans 3:23; 5: 8-10).
If we could make our salvation possible by our pious acts, Christ would not have died to provide it. Do not trust false thoughts, but place your faith in Christ.
🙏Lord Jesus Christ, we put aside all false thoughts and accept Your sacrifice for us today. Come into our lives and take Your place.
