PHILIPPIANS 1:21
Grace, living in a nursing home, was a widow who had outlived her friends and family. When he first met her, he asked her about her time and what captivated her attention. Grace cited Paul’s quote in Philippians 1:21, stating that to her, living is Christ and to die is gain. She shared that she had work to do, sharing Jesus with others on her good days and praying on her bad days.
Notably, Paul wrote Philippians while incarcerated. He also accepted a fact that many Christians recognise when they confront their own mortality: God cares about our remaining time on earth, despite how captivating paradise may seem.
Grace understood, as Paul did, that each breath she took was a chance to serve and exalt God. She devoted her days to showing love and sharing her Saviour with others.
Christians can cling to the hope of eternal joy in God’s presence even during the most trying times. And we appreciate our relationship with Him while we are alive. He gives meaning to every minute we have.
🙏 Lord, grant your people the strength to serve you with every breath they take, so that every moment of their remaining days matters to your Kingdom.
