If you really want to piss people off, threaten their economy.
An ugly economic image can lead people to vote out politicians, and the threat of a recession almost drove the apostle Paul out of Ephesus.
Because Paul was so successful in getting people to understand that there is only one true God, many Ephesians stopped worshiping the goddess Diana. It was bad news for the local silversmiths who made a living making and selling Diana figurines, the business would dry up there. When the craftsmen noticed it, a commotion and a tumult broke out.
This incident in Ephesus reminds us to assess our reasons for worshiping God.The silversmiths wanted to protect their worship to protect their prosperity, but this should never be said about us. We should never let our worship of God become an avenue of making good fortune.
We should worship God for His love for us and for who He is, not because love for Him can improve our economies. We need to worship God in the right way.
