DO NOT BE AFRAID

MARK 6:50

What happens when you are afraid? Does your heart race? Do you get out of breath easily? Fear makes our bodies react in various ways that keep us from being able to disregard our worries and stress.

I presume such feelings were felt by Jesus’ disciples the night after He fed over 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish. They had been dispatched ahead of Jesus so that He may pray alone. They were rowing against the wind in the middle of the night when they unexpectedly spotted Him strolling on the water. They were afraid, thinking He was a ghost (Mark 6:49-50).

However, Jesus told them to be fearless and courageous. The wind died down as He boarded the boat, and they arrived at the shore safely. I think their terror dissipated as they realised the serenity He gave.

We can rest and rely on Jesus’ power when we are feeling overwhelmed by worry or fear. He will give us the gift of His peace that transcends all understanding, whether He soothes our storms or strengthens us to face them (Philippians 4:7). We can experience peace even in the midst of storms as He responds to our concerns with His presence.

Jesus frees us from fear.

🙏🏼 Lord Jesus, come into our boats today.
