LUKE 9:51–56; PROVERBS 15:1
A university professor, a former atheist, noticed anti-God bumper stickers on a car. He believed the stickers might provoke anger, which could help atheists justify their beliefs. However, he warned that atheists often find what they seek in such situations.
Jesus faced threats and hatred from others but never doubted His deity. When a village refused hospitality, Jesus refused to call fire from heaven to destroy them. Instead, He rebuked His disciples because God sent His Son to save the world through Him, not to condemn it (Luke 9:54–55; John 3:17). This highlights Jesus’s unwavering commitment to His deity and His willingness to face rejection and hatred.
God does not require us to defend Him; He wants us to represent Him, which requires time, effort, restraint, and love.
🙏When faced with hatred, Lord Jesus, please help us to respond to it like you did: “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34)
