Contending for the faith today will mean drawing lines. There will surely be times when, if we are to be faithful to the Lord Jesus, we will be forced to defend the truth of God’s word in public. We will need to separate ourselves from false teaching and those who spread it, however painful that may be. We may also have to disobey orders which contradict scripture.
Playing safe by doing nothing is not an option, when wolves are intruding the flock. Indifference is the wrong kind of action, if we know that something needs to be done. Shying away from controversy for the sake of a quiet life is not being faithful. James reminds us that whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin (James 4:17).
