COMPARISON OBSESSION

MATTHEW 20:1–16

Harvard Business School professor Thomas J. DeLong has identified a growing trend of “comparison obsession” among professionals, including business executives, Wall Street analysts, lawyers, and doctors. This obsession is detrimental to individuals and companies, as it diminishes satisfaction and commitment by defining success based on external criteria rather than internal ones.

The Scriptures warn against comparison obsession, which can lead to pride, jealousy, and a failure to focus on God’s purpose. Jesus emphasized that this obsession stems from believing that God is unfair and doesn’t have the right to be more generous to others than He is to us. This leads to a lack of focus on what God has given us to do.

By focusing on God and taking moments to thank Him for everyday blessings, we can overcome comparison obsession.

🙏 Lord, we must have a clearer focus. Please help us to focus on You and Your kindness towards each and every one of us rather than on other people.
