ISAIAH 40:6-11, 28-31
The fastest land animal is believed to be the cheetah. However, in a footrace, four members of a Kenyan village beat two cheetahs.
The community goats appear to have been the cheetahs’ primary food source. The men therefore devised a strategy to halt them. They waited until it was the warmest time of the day before pursuing the cats, catching up to them when they were unable to run any farther. After being captured safely, the worn-out cheetahs were sent to the Kenyan wildlife department for relocation.
Can we identify with the cheetah? Although they may seem impressive, their strengths are temporary. We are like flowers that quickly whither in the heat, the prophet Isaiah reminds us (40:6–8).
However, our God usually provides us with comfort when we have spent ourselves. Those who seek the Lord are met with great relief. He can restore our strength according to His timing and will.
