1 THESSALONIANS 5:12-18
Brother Lawrence (1614-1691), also known as Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection served as a lay brother in a Carmelite monastery in Paris and Christians generally remember his intimacy in relation to his relationship with God.
He felt very close to God as he humbly cleaned the pots and pans in the monastery kitchen. He practiced certain moments of devotional prayer, but what he found most transforming in life was prayer during the work day. In his classical devotional “Practicing the Presence of God”, he said it was a great illusion to believe that our times of prayer should be different from other times. He believed that we should pray incessantly (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
Sometimes we tend to divide our lives into sections. We pray only during services, small-group Bible studies, family devotions, and times of personal devotion. But what about during our work day? Praying in the workplace does not mean we have to leave what we are meant to do. It means that decisions and business relationships can be brought to God throughout the day.
Wherever we are and whatever we do, God wants to be a part of it. When prayer permeates all aspects of our lives who knows what God could do to glorify Himself!
🙏 Lord, teach us how to pray without ceasing.
