London’s Westminster Abbey has a rich past. A custom of daily worship there was started by Benedictine monks in the tenth century. The Abbey has also witnessed the coronation of forty English kings and queens since AD 1066, when William the Conqueror was crowned, as well as the interment of many renowned persons, including seventeen of these monarchs.
World leaders come and go; they live and die, no matter how extravagant their funerals. Although he was previously dead, another king, Jesus, is no longer in the grave. Jesus died on the cross as the “king of the Jews” at His first coming and was given a crown of thorns (John 19:3, 19). Because He triumphantly arose from the grave, we who follow Christ have hope that endures to the grave and the certainty that we will spend eternity with Him.
The King we serve has risen! As we anticipate the day when He will rule forever, may we cheerfully submit to His dominion in our lives right now (Revelation 19:6).
