REVELATION 22:12-21
Some Americans built a homemade radio in a German prison camp during World War II without the authorities knowing. The German high command’s surrender, which brought the war to an end, was announced one day in the news. The guards were unaware of this, though, due to a communication breakdown. The inmates started to hear about it, and a loud celebration started. They laughed and joked over meals for three days while singing and waving at the guards. They discovered that all of the Germans had left when they awakened on the fourth day. The time for their waiting was over.
Waiting is a theme in several Bible stories: Abraham waited for a child. The Israelites waited for freedom from Egypt. The prophets waited for their own prophecies to come true. Jesus promised that He will return quickly at the conclusion of Revelation (22:20). We are waiting for this.
We should not be afraid or worried as we wait – even though that is how we usually feel. We may put the good news we claim to believe in into action, just like the prisoners of the Germans. What else is faith in God?
Faith sees the Saviour coming and always nearby when it looks beyond the shadow of hopelessness, doubt, and fear.
