Health and fitness centers provide fitness classes, exercise programs, and access to fitness equipment and physical fitness activities.
Many of such centers welcome a large number of people at the start of the year who will only come a few times. Some do not care if people pay dues and never come back. But fitness coach Jesse Jones takes the opposite approach. If you sign up and do not show up, he will cancel your membership and ask you to see him in a few months when you are serious. His passion is not to collect people’s money, but to make people achieve their goals.
In our text we meet three people who told Jesus that they wanted to follow Him, and all of them received seemingly disheartening responses from the Lord. For each person, rather than just welcoming him, Jesus explained the sacrifice and commitment required to become His disciple.
The Lord calls us not only to leave the status quo, but also to take following Him seriously.
Following Jesus requires everything of us.
