ISAIAH 53:1–6
The modern city of Jerusalem is believed to have been built on its own rubble. A family walked through the Via Dolorosa (the Way of Sorrow), the route Jesus followed on His way to the cross, during a visit, and paused at the Convent of the Sisters of Zion. They were intrigued by the sight of ancient pavement stones, likely from a later period, etched with games played by Roman soldiers during their idle moments. The stones prompted the family to reflect on their spiritual life, acknowledging that the Lord was beaten, mocked, insulted, and abused near the place they were standing, taking all of their failure and rebellion on Himself.
“But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
One of the family members declared, “My encounter with the stones still speaks to me of Jesus’ loving grace that is greater than all my sin.”
🙏Lord Jesus, You have given us hope, healing, and forgiveness through Your great sacrifice. We are grateful that Your love surrounds us both now and forever.
