ALL HURT WHEN ONE HURTS

1 CORINTHIANS 12:14–26

Everyone in the office was alarmed when a coworker called in sick because of excruciating pain. He returned to work following a hospital stay and a day of bed rest, and he showed them the kidney stone that was causing the agony. He had requested the stone from his doctor. Everyone was glad to have him back.

That something so tiny can inflict such pain on an entire body is fascinating, is it not? However, the apostle Paul makes a reference to that in 1 Corinthians 12:26. Every part suffers when one part suffers. Paul described Christians using the analogy of a body in chapter 12. Paul spoke to the entire body of Christ—all Christians. Each of us has unique roles and talents. However, if one person is wounded, we are all hurt since we are all a part of the same body. We feel as though we are going through their suffering when a fellow Christian is persecuted, grieved, or goes through hardships.

The suffering of others in the body of Christ awakens our empathy and motivates us to take action. We may offer a word of encouragement, pray, or take any other necessary action to promote healing. That is how the body functions as a whole.

🙏 Lord, please give peace to those who are persecuted or in pain.
