A NATION OF BOOKWORMS

2 TIMOTHY 3:16

Iceland is an island country in the North Atlantic, between Greenland and Norway, formerly a possession of Denmark. It is culturally considered to be part of Europe.

This island nation of just over three hundred thousand people has more writers, more books published and more books read, per person, than anywhere else in the world.

Solvi Bjorn Siggurdsson, an Icelandic novelist, said writers owe a lot to the past. He described his country as a nation of storytellers, that have always been surrounded by stories. After independence from Denmark in 1944, literature helped define their identity.

Iceland is said to be about eighty percent Christian, but in this nation of bookworms, the Bible is not listed among the top twenty books that people read most.

We can be thankful that God blessed so many with the ability to write good books and to inspire others. There is nothing like a good book! The Bible, was composed by many authors who were inspired.

In our reading, let us not forget to find time to curl up with the greatest book of all – the Bible.
