A BLIND MAN’S REQUEST

LUKE 18:35–43

Many years back, a fellow traveller saw that I was straining to see distant objects. His next action was straightforward yet transformative. “Try these,” he said after removing his glasses. I was surprised to see that my blurry vision improved when I put on his spectacles. I eventually saw an optometrist, who gave me glasses to fix my vision issue.

In Luke 18, a blind man with no vision, living in darkness, begs for a living. News about Jesus, a popular teacher and miracle worker, reaches the man’s ears. When Jesus’s travel route brings him by, hope is ignited in his heart. He calls Jesus, Son of David, for mercy. Despite lacking sight, the man has spiritual insight into Jesus’s identity and faith. Compelled by this faith, he shouts more, leading to his blindness being banished, and from begging for his living, he started blessing God.

Where do we turn during dark times or seasons? Who do we call? Prescription eyeglasses aid in eyesight improvement, but it is Jesus, God’s Son, who shows mercy and lifts people out of spiritual darkness.

🙏 Father, open your people’s eyes to clearly see who Jesus is and what He can do.
