JOSHUA 10:6–15
Because sailors required a way to communicate extreme distress, the Morse code signal, or SOS, meaning save our souls, was developed in 1905. In 1910, the signal became famous after it saved the lives of all forty-six passengers on board the sinking steamer Kentucky.
The urgent cry for help is an ancient human need, as seen in the Old Testament story of Joshua, who faced opposition and challenging terrain for over fourteen years to conquer and settle the land God had promised. In Joshua 10, the Israelites aided the Gibeonites, allies of Israel, who were being attacked by five kings. Joshua recognised the need for the Lord’s help to defeat powerful enemies, and God responded with a hailstorm and even stopped the sun to give Israel more time to defeat the enemy.
When things get tough, call on God for assistance. Help can arrive unannounced. Keep in mind that God is listening to your request and standing up for you.
🙏 May the LORD answer you when you are in trouble. May the name of the God of Jacob protect you. May He send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion (Psalm 20:1-2).
