MATTHEW 6:25–34; JAMES 1:17
When her mother tried to urge her to develop faith when she was a teenager, she occasionally resisted. “Have faith. She would assure her, “God will look after you.” “It is not that easy, Mom!” she would yell in response. “Heaven helps those who help themselves!”
However, Scripture makes no mention of the phrase “Heaven helps those who help themselves.” Rather, the Bible instructs us to rely on God for our everyday necessities.
Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 6:25-34 emphasise God’s fatherly care, making worry about life’s basic things unnecessary. Worry is translated as “distracting or anxious care,” as seen in Luke 10:41 and Paul’s Philippians 4:6. For those who call God “Father,” worry is unreasonable, uncharacteristic, unproductive, and unprofitable.
🙏 May God remove all your worries, help you to trust Him, and care for you today, tomorrow, and forever, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
