NEHEMIAH 8:5–12
American recruits in basic training for World War II used humour and letters to deal with their challenges. One young man exaggerated the vaccination process in a letter, saying, “Two medical officers chased us with harpoons. . . ”
One soldier discovered that humour has its limits. After receiving a Bible, he wrote, “I enjoy it very much, and I read it every night. I never realised you could learn so much from a Bible.”
Long ago, Jewish exiles returned home after being enslaved in Babylon and faced challenges like enemies, famine, and the effects of their own sins while rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls. They turned to God’s Word, leading to tears and comfort, as Nehemiah encouraged them not to grieve, because the joy of the Lord was their strength.
We do not need to wait for trouble to hear from God. The Bible teaches us about His character, forgiveness, and comfort. Reading it reveals surprising insights from God’s Spirit.
🙏 Open the eyes of your servants, O Lord! Let them behold wondrous things in Your Word.
