ROMANS 12:1–8
Marshall McLuhan’s 1964 statement “the medium is the message” predicted how our thinking is influenced in the digital age. Nicholas Carr’s book, “The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains,” highlights how the media supply the stuff of thought but also shape the process of thought. The Net is chipping away at our capacity for concentration and contemplation, as our minds expect to take in information in a swiftly moving stream of particles, regardless of whether we’re online or not.
Paul’s message to Christians in Rome emphasises the importance of allowing God to mould our minds. This message is relevant today as our thoughts and minds process material influenced by the world.
We cannot stop the flood of information that comes at us, but we can ask God to help us focus on Him and allow His presence in our lives to influence the way we think every day.
