MARKING TIME

PSALM 25:1–15

“Mark Time, March” is a military command that denotes a stationary march. It is a deliberate stop in forward motion while keeping one’s mind alert and waiting eagerly for the next order.

Marking time now generally refers to “motion without progress, not getting anywhere, and not doing anything important while you wait.” It evokes a sense of pointless, idle waiting.

The Bible’s word “wait” often signifies eagerly anticipating, hoping, and expecting.

We often have no choice about the things we must wait for, like medical diagnoses or job interviews, but instead of succumbing to fear or apathy, we can actively seek God’s strength and direction by “marching in place” each day.

🙏 Lord, grant us the grace to take advantage of breaks in our daily lives and to be ready to obey Your next command.
