1 CORINTHIANS 1:25-31
A British actress named Fanny Kemble migrated to America in the early 1800s and married Pierce Butler, the owner of a southern plantation. Fanny was living the luxurious life made possible by the plantation’s wealth until she realised how expensive that luxury was—a price paid by the slaves who worked tirelessly on her husband’s farms.
Kemble’s memoir, detailing the frequently terrible treatment slaves endured, led to her ultimate divorce from her husband. Her writings were published in 1863 and were disseminated among abolitionists. As “the unlikely abolitionist,” she gained recognition.
God repeatedly and delightfully surprises us in the body of Christ. He frequently employs unlikely persons and circumstances to further His goals (1 Corinthians 1:27–28).
This serves as a reminder that God can use anyone through His grace. We might be astonished by what He can accomplish through us if we let Him operate in us.
🙏God, make our hearts willing and ready to be used.
