ADDRESSING THE MYSTERY

ROMANS 5:1-11

The enormous stone pillars of Stonehenge are one of the most visited tourist destinations in England. These enormous slabs of granite are a huge source of mystery as well. People visit Stonehenge yearly and wonder things like, “Why were they built?” Who is the author of this amazing engineering feat? Perhaps our biggest question is how they achieved it. However, guests leave without receiving any responses from the stone’s quietness. It is still a mystery.

The fact that God came to live among us as a man is described in the Scriptures as being a greater mystery.

The summary of Christ’s life—the mystery of godliness—is astounding. However, it is not a mystery as to what drove the universe’s Creator to come, live, and ultimately die for His creation. God showed His love for us by sending Christ to the cross for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). The mystery of godliness is rooted in God’s immense love for us, which the cross has made obvious to everyone.

How Christ became a human being may be a mystery, but God’s love is not.

what pains he had to bear;

but we believe it was for us

he hung and suffered there.”
