JEREMIAH 9:23-26
Those who possess exceptional qualities or resources may be inclined to place a higher value on themselves than is appropriate. But to desire to claim credit for our accomplishments, we do not have to be extraordinarily intelligent, powerful, or affluent. Any kind of achievement raises the following question: Who will receive credit?
God communicated with the Israelites through the prophet Jeremiah during a time of judgment. He declared that neither the wise, the mighty nor the rich should take pride in their wealth, knowledge, or prowess (Jeremiah 9:23). Let him who exalts himself exalt himself in knowing and comprehending God (v.24). God wished for His people to value Him and His perfection above all else.
If we let compliments boost our sense of self-worth, we are neglecting the fact that all good gifts come from the Father (James 1:17). Giving God the glory is preferable because He deserves it and because doing so guards against our hearts becoming conceited. He is God, the One who accomplishes astonishing things in an endless number.
We exist to glorify God and bring Him pleasure.
🙏🏼 Dear Lord, we give You all the glory.
