PSALM 34:15–22
Rio de Janeiro’s 2016 Olympic athletes could see Jesus from almost anywhere in the city, thanks to a 100-foot-tall sculpture called Cristo Redentor, anchored to a 2,310-foot-high mountain called Corcovado. The massive figure, with wide arms, is visible day and night from almost anywhere in the city.
The iconic concrete and soapstone sculpture is comforting, but the real Jesus sees us. In Psalm 34, David explains that the Lord’s eyes are on the righteous, and His ears are attentive to their cry. When the righteous call out for His help, the Lord hears them, delivers them from their troubles, is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those crushed in spirit.
The righteous are those who trust in Jesus Christ, who is their righteousness (1 Corinthians 1:30). God oversees our lives and hears our cries, providing assistance during our greatest needs. Jesus has His eyes on us.
