ROMANS 6:1-14
Joy was watching her two young grandchildren when they started fighting over a toy. “John, go to your room!” insisted the younger brother (by 3 years). The older brother, shoulders hunched under the weight of the scolding, started to slink off to his room. B Joy answered, “John, you do not have to go to your room.” “You are not under Nathan’s authority!” Everything changed after John came to this realisation, and he then sat back down to play.
Like the younger brother, we who are disciples of Christ sometimes allow our brokenness and propensity to sin to give us a false sense of authority. Our connection with the Saviour is humourless while sin loudly threatens to rule our hearts and minds.
However, that danger is nullified by Christ’s death and resurrection. Sin has no power over us (Romans 6:14).
Although we are very much broken, Christ’s grace gives us the ability to live in a way that pleases God and demonstrates His transforming power to the world. Sin is no longer in charge. Right now, we are surrounded by Jesus’ grace and presence. We are freed from the shackles of sin by His dominion in our lives.
