MATTHEW 9:9–13
When a rescue team finds someone trapped in a dangerous place, they do not wait for the person to become worthy of rescue before reaching out. They go after them because the person needs help. Jesus similarly called Matthew while he was still a tax collector. His past did not prevent Christ from giving him a new direction.
Matthew 9:9–13 tells how Jesus saw Matthew at the tax booth and simply said, “Follow me.” Matthew immediately rose and followed Him. Jesus also ate with tax collectors and sinners, declaring that He came to call sinners to repentance.
Christ still calls people today. Do not allow your past, possessions or comfort to keep you from obeying Him. Follow His voice, choose His ways and extend His mercy to others.
