EXODUS 14:1-14
Was Pharaoh part of Israel’s problem or solution?
If we had been among the Israelites leaving Egypt after four hundred years of slavery, we would likely have seen Pharaoh as part of the problem – and he was. But God saw something more.
God told Moses and the people of Israel to camp by the Red Sea so Pharaoh would believe they are trapped and attack them (Exodus 14:1-3). That is to say, nothing would have prevented the sea from giving way before Pharaoh came after them. The Israelites thought they were going to be destroyed, but God had His own plan – to gain glory and honour for Himself through Pharaoh and all his army.
When we cannot understand why God allows certain circumstances that threaten to overwhelm us, it is good to remember that He has our interest and His glory in mind.
Let our faith help us to accept what we cannot understand.
