WHEN TROUBLES COME…

JOHN 16:25-33

I was relieved to see last year come to a close. It had held a great deal of grief, illness, and misery. I was ready to usher in the new year with my own brass band!

However, as the new year began, one piece of bad news after another emerged. Several of my friends’ parents died. A friend’s son died recently. Rather than bringing an end to the sorrowful times, the year seemed to usher in a new wave of grief.

Even God’s children are not guaranteed a life of total ease, riches, and health (John 16:33). Nonetheless, we are never alone in our distress. God is with us while we walk through deep waters, as Isaiah 43:2 tells us. We can trust God’s love because we know Him, even if we don’t always understand His motives in the trials we face.

Our God is a God of abundant love, and nothing, not death, not life, not the present or the future, will ever be able to separate us from His love, which is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord (Rom. 8:38-39). When trouble strikes, He promises to be present.

🙏🏼 Lord, when all we hear is silence, we believe You are present.
