ISAIAH 40:30-31
Legend says that an Eagle at the age of thirty to fifty, flies to a high place and there it goes through a harsh trial of endurance and change. It plucks all the feathers from its body because they are old and overgrown and prevents it from flying well. It plucks its talons from its feet because the talons have grown curled and useless. It breaks its beak against a rock because it has become too long and curled. Helpless, it cries out and waits for the time of renewal.
Other Eagles hear its cry, and come to help. They fly up above it, scaring away predators, and they also bring food to their incapacitated friend.
After about five months, the eagle is set to fly again and live for about thirty more years.
Pentecost is a significant period in the Christian calendar. It occurred ten days after Jesus’ ascension, as the disciples waited for renewal/empowerment as He had instructed them. The festival of Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ. In the Christian tradition, this event represents the birth (or rebirth) of the early church as they received a fresh unction to move on.
We must learn to always spend time with the Lord (waiting). This should happen daily and at other allotted times created by us or the Church.
May our waiting – as we trust the Lord for power for the days ahead – never be in vain.
