JUDGES 7:2-8
The largest armies in the world are not simply known for their equipment, but their active military personnel.
Good military commanders always want enough troops to accomplish their mission. But most would prefer too much men, not too few.
In warfare number is important.
When Gideon recruited an army of 32,000 to fight those who oppressed the Israelites, the Lord told him that the people who were with him were too many to deliver the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel glory in believing that it was their hands that saved them.
The Lord began to reduce Gideon’s army. When the fearful were allowed to leave, 22,000 men returned home. A second reduction reduced the strength of the remaining 10,000 to 300 soldiers. How could Gideon think of winning now?
In our life of faith, our resources can become obstacles to trust in God. He wants us to rely on Him, not on our strengths, whether physical, financial or intellectual.
If the Lord reduces our resources, it is not a punishment. It is a preparation for Him to be glorified in our lives as we trust in His power.
🙏 Lord, be our strength as we trust in You.
