TO A CHILD

3 JOHN

Reading C. S. Lewis’ final letter is an emotional exercise. His final letter, written the night before he died, is the loveliest way to end a life well spent.

Lewis tried to return all correspondence, as was his practice. Even in his final hours, he took the time to compose a letter to a child. It was thoughtful, courteous, and considerate.

In his later life, the apostle John wrote a letter to his spiritual offspring. It clearly showed the delight of a mature Christian encouraging his spiritually younger disciples to continue walking in the truth and following Jesus.

John’s letter exemplifies the delight that comes from nurturing and witnessing the spiritual progress of the next generation.

The aspiration of mature believers should be to encourage spiritual knowledge in the upcoming generation. Sending a note of gratitude, a word of encouragement, a prayer, or useful advise are all examples of helping and supporting someone in their spiritual journey with God.

With someone who knows the road, the journey is much more rewarding.

🙏🏼Lord, help us sacrifice our time to help another in Christ to grow.
