TIME MANAGEMENT

PSALM 90:12

Time management is the process of planning and controlling how much time is spent on certain activities. Good time management helps us to achieve more in a shorter period of time, while trying to reduce stress.

A lot has changed since the efforts to make electric clocks began and the first successful invention was achieved in 1840 by Alexander Bain, a Scottish clock and instrument maker. With several advancements, we now keep time on smart watches, smart phones, and laptops. But these modifications has not changed the approach of many to time management – which is poor.

Also, the pace of life seems faster today – with even our leisure time speeding up. This is especially true in cities and can have a negative effect on health. We are just moving faster and faster and getting back to people as quickly as we can. Our time with God is not left out, as it is programmed – and so most times we are rushing to conclude. According to William Henry Davies, “We have no time to stand and stare.”

Moses, the writer of one of the oldest of the Bible’s psalms (Psalm 90), reflected on time. He reminds us that God controls life’s pace – “For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.” (Psalm 90:4).

The secret to time management, is not to go faster or slower. It is to abide in God, spending time with Him. He is the One who formed us and knows our purpose and plans. He is the One who helps us to actualize our plans within any specified time.

Our time on earth will not last forever. Yet we can manage it wisely, not by watching the clock only, but by giving each day to God. As Moses said, “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” (Psalm90:12)

With God we will not miss our time, now and forever.
