LUKE 10:38-42
During a church service, I noticed an infant several rows away. As the baby peered over his father’s shoulder, his eyes were wide with wonder as he looked around the congregation. He grinned at some people, drooled, and chewed his fingers. As my attention transferred to that precious baby, the preacher’s words started to fade.
Distractions come in all shapes and dimensions. For Martha, distraction came in the form of cooking and cleaning—trying to serve Christ rather than listening to and interacting with Him. Mary refused to be distracted (Luke 10:39). When Martha complained that Mary was not helping her, Jesus replied that Mary had chosen what was better, and it would not be taken away from her (v. 42).
Jesus’ remarks remind us that our relationship with Him is more important than any good thing that may temporarily capture our attention. It has been said that good things are the enemies of great things. Knowing and walking with Jesus are the most important things in life for His followers.
🙏🏻Teach us, Lord Jesus, to get to know You, for that is when we will learn to love You more than anything.
