JOB 31:1-4
My friend is a computer technician. One night when I was at his house, I noticed that the screen saver on his monitor had these words: “I have made a covenant with my eyes” (Job 31:1). He apparently understood the potential danger of spending hours alone in front of a computer with easy access to naughty images.
What we see affects our thinking and what we think about the most, we eventually act on.
Like many of us, Job promised to be free from lust. The Bible assures us that God sees our ways and that we are to be accountable to Him, so believers are to refrain from every appearance of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22). While some want to debate the limits of morality, the Bible says that anyone who looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Matthew 5:28).
When lustful thoughts invade our minds to play with immorality, we need to remember that God’s will for us is holiness and purity.
One look that lasts can lead to horniness. We need to make a covenant with our eyes and see how the Bible can help us keep that promise. We may need to post a verse on our computer screens, televisions, or car dashboards as reminders (Deuteronomy 6:7-9).
🙏 Lord what we see affects our thoughts and actions. Guide our eyes today and always in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
