Have you heard of the human camera?
Stephen Wiltshire is an autistic, artistic savant. Although he is disabled in areas like speech, when it comes to art and memory, his abilities are second to none. He can draw accurate aerial panoramic views of cities like Tokyo, Rome and New York City. Sketching completely from memory after short helicopter rides, Stephen’s unique ability to draw cities down to the last detail is extremely surprising. He was awarded Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to the art world in 2006.
Wiltshire’s memory is exceptional. But there is another kind of memory that is even more amazing. Before Jesus’ return to heaven, He promised His disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit to give them supernatural memory (John 14:26).
The disciples heard Christ’s astounding teachings. They heard and saw Him command the blind to see, the deaf to hear, and the dead to be raised. As they recorded these events, their words were not the product of gifted human memories. Their recollections came from a divine Helper (the Holy Spirit) who made sure they compiled a reliable record of Christ’s life.
We can trust the Bible. It was written with guidance from the “divine camera,” the Holy Spirit, who uses the Word of God to teach the people of God.
🙏 Lord, the words in the Bible are there for us to learn and apply. Open thou our eyes, that we may behold wondrous things out of Your Word.
