JOHN 20:24-31
Can a believer in Jesus who occasionally doubts his faith serve the Lord effectively? Some people think that mature, growing Christians never question their faith. But just as we can have experiences that can strengthen our faith, we can also have experiences that cause us to temporarily doubt.
The term “doubting Thomas” refers directly to the biblical story of the apostle Thomas.
The disciple Thomas at first had doubts about the accounts of Jesus’ resurrection. He said that if he had not seen the imprint of the nails in Jesus’ hands, he would not believe (John 20:25). Christ showed him the proofs he needed. After this incident, the New Testament said very little about what happened to Thomas.
However, several early church traditions indicate that Thomas went to India as a missionary. While there, he is said to have preached the gospel, performed miracles, and founded churches. Some of these churches in India still have active congregations that trace their founding to Thomas.
A moment of doubt should not become a pattern in life. Let God guide you to a deeper understanding of His reality. Renew your faith. You can still do great things for Him.
🙏🏼 Lord help us to doubt our doubts and believe our beliefs.
