THE GOD WHO PAINTS

PSALM 42

Nezahualcoyotl, a poet and ruler in Mexico, possessed a spiritual hunger. His name, meaning “Hungry Coyote,” signified a deep spiritual hunger. He wrote, “Truly the gods, which I worship, are idols of stone that do not speak nor feel. Some powerful, hidden, unknown god is the creator of the entire universe. He is the only one that can console me in my affliction and help me in such anguish as my heart feels; I want him to be my helper and protection.”

Whether Nezahualcoyotl located the Giver of Life is unknown to us. However, during his rule, he erected a pyramid in honour of the “God who paints things with beauty,” and he banned human sacrifice in the city he ruled.

Like the Psalmist, there are many hungry coyotes that recognise that fame, money, and relationships cannot fill their souls. Through Jesus, the living God made Himself known, giving significance to life. This is good news for those seeking the God who paints things with beauty.

🙏 Lord Jesus, You are the One our souls need.
