THE DIFFICULT PATH TO STRENGTH

2 CORINTHIANS 12:1-10; PSALM 22:14

Diamonds are lovely and precious gemstones, but they are made from common carbon, which is black, dirty, and combustible. They become pure and strong after years of intense heat and high pressure. As a result, they are a good metaphor for spiritual strength; God uses intense outside pressures to cleanse us of impurities and perfect His strength in us.

As we move through Lent and into Easter, we must remember that difficult paths can be channels through which God carries out His divine plan. Jesus had to go through the difficult path.

Within minutes of His crucifixion, Jesus would have become severely dyspnoeic (short of breath). His movements up and down the Cross to breathe would end up causing excruciating pain in His wrist, legs, as well as sprained elbows and shoulders.

Some people project an image of strength and self-sufficiency. However, the unexpected loss of health, occupation, or a cherished relationship becomes a shocking reminder of their complete reliance on God.

When we go through the fiery furnace of life, whether physical or emotional, whether from without or within, God’s loving purpose is to purify and strengthen us.

God uses the difficult paths in our lives to cleanse us of impurity and to teach us that our strength comes from Him, not from ourselves.

🙏🏼Purify and strengthen us, Lord.
