PSALM 27
From 1984 to 2008, American swimmer Dara Torres participated in five different Olympics. 25 years after she established the previous US record for the 50-meter freestyle, she broke it. However, it was not always about awards and records. Injuries, surgeries, and the fact that she was over two decades older than most of her opponents were other challenges Torres faced during her sporting career. As she said, “I am also aware that setbacks have an upside; they fuel new dreams.”
Excellent life lesson: “Setbacks have benefits.” The challenges Torres faced inspired her to aim higher. They also have spiritual advantages (James 1:2–3).
Though it is challenging, adopting this viewpoint on life’s challenges is rewarding. Trials offer a chance to strengthen our relationship with God. By fostering the type of patience that waits on God and trusts Him for the strength to endure, they also provide us the chance to acquire things that success cannot impart.
🙏🏻In our times of trial, dear Lord, may we learn Your wisdom and have the patience to endure.
