ZECHARIAH 2
A friend’s baby was suffering seizures, and they rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. The mother’s heart raced as she prayed for her daughter, recalling the Lord’s love for us and how we are the “apple of His eye.”
Zechariah urges God’s people to repent, rebuild the temple, and renew their love for the true God after their captivity in Babylon. He calls them to love the Lord deeply and be the apple of His eye.
The term “apple” appears because it is a common spherical object, according to Hebrew experts, who believe this phrase from Zechariah 2 refers to one’s reflection in the pupil of another person’s eye. Eyes are precious and fragile, and the Lord wants to love and protect His people by holding them close to His heart.
The Lord’s love for us is more than a loving mother’s, as we are the apple of His eye, His beloved.
